The Prince’s Rainforest Project, Duchy and Palm oil

If any of you saw Jonathan Ross last night, then you would have seen the speech made by Vivienne Westwood about the rainforests. She promoted the website and campaign of Prince Charles – The Princes Rainforest Project.  She urged us to go onto his website and sign the petition.

This is a great campaign, (I have signed it) and although it is not directly to help the Orangutan’s, the work of saving Continue reading The Prince’s Rainforest Project, Duchy and Palm oil

What to buy without palm oil – cosmetic/food/household

What to buy – products NOT using palm oil or using sustainable oil

FOODS

Waitrose and the Co-operative (co-op) now have palm oil listed in the ingredients of their own brand products, which will give you the opportunity to choose products without palm oil if you wish.  Sainsburys are in the process of re-listing the ingredients of their own brand products and I will put a notice on this website once they have that complete.

BREAD – Waitrose Oraganic bread is the only bread I have seen in there without palm oil in it – the white and seeded oatmeal are delicious and to be honest, I do not get a bloated tummy after eating it, as opposed to other breads which can cause discomfort.

CHOCOLATE – I have found a chocolate that does not contain palm oil!  It is Chokolit ‘biting back bar’  see my article on it by CLICKING HERE

FISH PRODUCTS – Sainsbury’s own brand ‘basics fish fingers’ plus all the other products in their frozen fish range

Palm-oil free foods (as recommended by the Independent website)
*Walkers Crisps; Muller Light; Lurpak; Lindt; Heinz Beans; Weetabix; Cathedral City Cheese; Heinz Soups; Danone Activia; Heinz Ketchup; Petit Filous; Dairylea; Anchor Spreads; Doritos; Bird’s Eye Frozen Veg; Hellmann’s Mayonnaise; Hula Hoops; Sensations; Yeo Valley Yogurts; Kettle Crisps; Uncle Ben’s Rice; McCain’s Chips; Snack a Jacks; Kellogg’s Cornflakes; Toblerone; Danone Actimel; John West Tinned Fish.

Supermarket contact details – around the World

Supermarket contact details – around the World

These are some of the people who could easily put an end to most of the forest destruction and killing of orangutans by the palm oil industry.

Why not spend a few minutes expressing in an email to these companies your wish for “Orangutan Friendly” palm oil in the products you buy? If you don’t tell them, how else will they know of your concern? They have the financial influence to insist on “Orangutan Friendly” palm oil from Indonesia and Malaysia. All we ask in the IMMEDIATE FUTURE is for the above companies to set an example to the world. Those companies who do switch to “Orangutan Continue reading Supermarket contact details – around the World

Product/Manufacturer contact details

Product/Manufacturer contact details – for all products out of UK top 100 using palm oil in these products.  Remember, we are not looking for them to stop using palm oil, but to ensure that their supplies in the future are going to be from sustainable plantations (Orangutan friendly) and that they will show palm oil in their ingredients list, so we have a choice whether to eat this saturated fat or not….  See my letters HERE Continue reading Product/Manufacturer contact details

Please take time out to  inform the Government as well as your local MP and MEP of your concerns about palm oil plantations causing the destruction of rainforests and the resulting loss of wildlife.  This is an issue that has been addressed and is being addressed, but it is good for them to see more people caring…  See my letters HERE

Lone Droscher-Nielsen: The destruction of the rainforests amounts to orangutan genocide

My biggest wish is that people in the western world could understand what is happening here in Borneo, and how the demand for palm oil is devastating the rainforests and contributing to the extinction of the orangutan. Forests are being destroyed at the rate of an area roughly the size of two football fields every minute in the country, contributing massively to climate change and driving the orangutan closer to extinction with the loss of every acre. Orangutans are so much like us, yet we humans are killing them by the thousand. To me that is genocide and it has to stop.
